Many apartments have entryways that you can decorate to give your guests a cozier feeling when they enter your apartment.  As a standard practice, having your entryway properly lighted will assist your eyes and adjusting from outside to inside. The main impetus on entryways should be about the way they look and not about functionality. Making a first impression can go a long way with your guests and an having entryway that makes a statement is something you should strive for. Lighting the entryway up with some unique table lamps would be a recommendation if there is no table you might want to think about some unique wall lighting such as recessed lighting and overhead lighting. If clearance permits, than a chandelier will speak volumes. It’s important to note that you must choose the size of your chandelier correctly. It needs to be proportioned to the entryway but yet, still provide an elegant ambiance. For even more lighting flexibility try using a dimmer switch to take lighting control to another level.

In a earlier post I mentioned that lighter colors are used to create openness, but when decorating a small entryway this rule should not apply due mainly to the fact that an entryway is just too small for that rule to apply. With that being said, use whatever colors you would like to make that initial statement. Not only paint, but there is a variety of wallpapers on the market today that you might want to look at. If you have hard floors than utilizing a rug or some other form of floor decorations might help in pulling the entryway altogether.

A final personal touch and entryway such as a family photo, piece of hand painted art or even a wall sculpture might give your entryway a welcoming feeling. Having your guests feel at ease and welcomed is something to strive for when decorating an entryway. Just think about it, the first room that your guests are in as they enter your home is the entryway and what better way to sum up your personality and decorating tastes. Just devote some time and effort and the results will be worth it.
