Big Lots along with Big Lots Furniture is a company that was founded by Sol Shenk in 1967. Their corporate office is in Columbus, Ohio. Their main focus is retail goods with a  added focus on closeout items, but Big Lots also has several hundred free standing discount furniture stores that sell bedroom sets, sofas, recliners, beds, bunk beds, workstations, kitchen table and much more. Big lots is a publicly owned company with locations in virtually every state in the United Sates.  They are able to provide quality apartment furniture at an affordable price because they buy in such big quantity. And typically when they are purchasing it’s from a discount furniture company that may have been overstocked on a certain piece. Don’t confuse Big Lots Furniture with your typical cheap furniture company. They have high quality branded furniture. Big lots furniture offers brand names at closeout prices.

 

With that, the down side of shopping at Big Lot’s furniture is variety. When you first visit the store you will notice that they have a lot of one-offs, pieces with flaws or the color might not be main stream. But, the good of this is that you can buy this quality branded furniture at a bargain. One of the tips I would give while shopping at Big Lots Furniture is not to be indecisive. Since on occasion you will find certain furniture that they might only have one of, you will need to be able to POP on it right away. I can’t count the times that we have went in and found a piece of apartment sized furniture, but thought “why don’t we think about it” and return the next day only for the piece to be gone. They are not like an IKEA where they have hundreds of pieces waiting in the warehouse to be shipped out, but again that’s the price you pay for quality apartment furniture that you won’t find every day.

Another reason I like  shopping at Big lots furniture is the knick knacks they decorate their furniture store with. I love the effort that Big Lot’s put into displaying their furniture. It’s not of IKEA design, but they do a quality job. I have found several unique globes, pots and other decorative items that really give our apartment a unique feel.

Big lots furniture was the very first store that my wife and I started shopping to start furnishing our first apartment, so I thought I would only be appropriate to give them some love on my blog. If you have had a good experience with Big Lot’s Furniture…I would love to hear from you!
